Matt Turnbull

Matt Turnbull is a self employed builder, specialising in passive fire protection within the commercial construction industry. He has had a passion for speed from a young age when at thirteen years he progressed from billycarts to his first motor cross bike. Bikes still remain his primary passion with motor cross and sports riding holding equal appeal. However when he turned eighteen he got into rally driving and there he developed his second love of racing cars. His first rally car was a Datsun 1600 and his next was an Escort RS2000.
Unfortunately for Matt’s understanding wife, his ‘no fear’ attitude has not eroded along with the responsibilities of being a husband and father. This applies equally to his motor bike, trail bike and motor car racing.
In 2001 he acquired a 1973 911 RSR Porsche which he enjoyed modifying to its current state. In this car he competed in the 2003 series of the Porsche Club race days, the new Porsche Drivers Challenge and some of the Victorian State rounds. He also competed in the 2003 Grand Prix Rally with his good friend Michael Pearce acting as navigator and came 12 outright in their first effort. For the 2004 season he is retiring his 1973 911 RSR from the track and looks forward to driving it in the longer distance Targa and classic type events.
In 2004 he purchased a GT3 CS to pursue his dream of participating in the Nations Cup, Porsche Drivers Challenge, VMRC. He put this car to good effect throughout the three categories and won the round of Porsche Drivers Challenge at Sandown. There were a number of DNF through mechanical failures however he was able to keep it straight for the season.
For 2005 he has purchased a GT3 Cup Car to participate in the VMRC and
Sports/GT Intermarque Challenge and has since won the first round of VMRC at Mallala in Febuary 2005.
